ORGANICS

Organic food. Natural products. You are either a giant carrot or a sack of potato chips: but it goes deeper than that.

I'm pretty sure you don't need a lecture on nutrition. You already know this stuff. Read the paper on addiction if you drink coffee with sugar. If you drink soda, diet or otherwise just give up. Your a gonner. We would like to say "just kidding" here but unfortunately, this is non-negotiable if you have a mental health diagnosis. If you don't yet have a diagnosis, keep it up, it's on the way. The chemical load in soda's, energy drinks, and sugar/coffee combinations primes the body for genetic damage. Not just diabetes, but dementia.

New studies are correlating caffeine/sugar combinations as a precursor to cerebral cortex (thinking part of the brain) damage. If you have already stressed out your brain with substance abuse, pharmacologic poisons and chemically loaded food, you have some work to do. Thankfully, since you are still breathing; there is hope for clearing out the gunk in your lymphatics. Do I need to say it again? Kundalini Yoga. Breath practice, body movement, vibrational attunement, pineal and pituitary health are all dependent on the flow of chemicals from the brain to the rest of the glands in your body. Energetic processes are affected by nutrition, too.

How to get started. 1) Clean up your liquids. Green tea; Yogi Tea (see the recipe on the next page). 2) Cut out anything with nitrates and antiobiotics: red meat, chicken and dairy (raw, whole milk from organically fed Guernsey cows is ok). 3) Read labels. If you can't pronounce it-don't eat it.  Our food is full of toxicity and what is sold as healthy is in fact mostly pesticide laden, illness producing, junk.

Guernsey Cows?
All milk is not created equal. Just like most every product in the grocery store, corporate greed has overtaken our food sources and mass-produced a replica distinctly different from the original nature-derived goodness available in the past. Dr. Liz Carter, located in Seattle, WA has a video series on intermittent fasting, loves cows, (dairy products, too) and has put together some great info on her web-site (see link below). Basically, Guernsey cows produce a specific type of protein in their milk that is not available in the milk of fast producing species used in most every dairy product on the market. Check out her site for more info. Sign up for her newsletter for some moooving information on cow milk protein!

The skinny on nutrition is that it is as individual as you are. Allergies are silent inflammatory agents that may underlie diagnoses. Get an evaluation from a Naturopath. Don't assume you 'have depression' without first investigating your diet. There is a lot you can do with some good direction. It's not about how you look, it's about how you feel. The yogic diet is vegetarian which is a whole other category of learning. If you are just getting started, read, get a consult and go forward with some powerful tools for personal wellness.
