SHOCK

Treat Your Shock!

Shock is another word for trigger, a sudden numbness or switch into emotion...A 'programmed' nervous system response.

This is the bottom line. Untreated shock uproots your intentions, hijacks your brain and wreaks havoc in your life. It is why you loose your ability to speak when you need it most. This underlies binge eating, addictions, chronic relationship difficulties...it all comes back to shock.

TREAT YOUR SHOCK! Put ice on the neck, forearms, or feet. Get a heating pad on your chest or shoulders. Teach yourself to notice the symptoms of oncoming shock and use your ice and heat. Both if necessary. Writer's block? Shock. Procrastination? Shock. Indecision? Shock.

Breathe deep into the naval area, expand your belly on the inbreath. You can reverse the onset of shock with focused, long-deep breathing. Meditation will help the body to stay out of shock over the long-term, bringing awareness to your own patterns.

Why do I go into shock? Shock is a survival response. Your brain calls 911 when you only need a Band-aid. This is a learned, protective response. In order to 'unlearn' this response, your job is to soothe yourself before the autonomic nervous system picks up the phone.
